The Lost Son

There’s a child born,

A child whose future glitters as the summer sun,

A child who gladdens a pale but still mother

whose glowing smiles are often cut

by memories of prior predicament.

As the clock ticks, his smiles widen

and his eyes so wild and splendid

His mood would only be kindled by lullabies and hugs.

One bright but quiet night

while the mother feeds her suckling,

With her voice sounding soft in that cupid’s ear as she sings to soothe him

she suddenly hears echoes of cries and shouts

Her heart pounds like a beaten drum

and her face drops in despair.

Having no where to hide and destress

She lays her suckling on a duvet which smells of old

and rushes out to see for herself

But what lies before her eyes paralyses her heart

Just before her is a pool of human blood

Her feet is soaked in cold thickened blood

and her soul is weakened by the terror before her.

She sees many huts and hearts on fire

escorted by screams of pain and agony

Her soul is torn apart

As she looks up into the sky,

the moon sinks

Her ‘cupid’ cries aloud

And the desperate mother trembles and limps back home

but an innocent soul who was yet to see delight is lost

Memories of his soft whimper runs through her mind,

but he’s no where to be found.

His cry is heard but so distant from his mother,

‘My son, my son, my son is lost!’

mourns a mother whose heart is devoured by grief and agony.

Tales In A Daydream [ACT III SCENE IV]

A castle in Arcadia

[Enter Walter, Lordes, elders and guards]

Lordes, Walter and the elders sit at a table in one of the conference rooms in the innermost part of the castle. The guards stand at the gates of the conference.

Prince Lordes: Be seated. I called upon you to announce my trip to Venus. The reason, you need not. But I say, two followers and two guards I require. Two moons left. I shall embark on this trip with my honourable. Assistant, Walter. [Smiling] Any word to them? [to Walter]

Walter: Uhh… it’s been about a decade since my honour spoke in this manner. His earnestness prevails, I say. His spoken word is final. Without any offense, alas.

First Elder: My Prince, farewell since you would be far-flung but why had you not told us earlier?

Lordes: For that reason ye are in my presence. I called ye hither about my voyage to Venus.

Second Elder: Lordes, If I may ask, how many nights to spend there?

Lordes: I’m clueless. It were not just my word but my thought. There would be a surprise for you. So I bid you adieu.

First elder: Be more explicit, your honour. Do not complicate things.

Lordes: Be not a twerp, Stanley! [scowling] Speak no more.

Third Elder: Twice, every wise man thinketh. Do what your heart dictates. If you err, you face your trials. If you gain, you meet your success.

Lordes: Wise. [Applauding] Each follower or elder I appoint must be in support of my mission. Understood?

All: Yes, your honour.

Fourth Elder: We are of keen minds. We are in support of your decision, Prince.

Fifth Elder: Ay… I second. [stamping his feet and his rod]

Walter: It is indeed obvious that our honourable Prince Lordes is being cogent here. No say anymore.

Lordes: Our first and last gathering is today’s. If I do not appear before you again then I’m off. A bientôt. Je suis fatigué et j’ ai besoins de dormir.
[Exit Walter, Lordes and guards]

First Elder: His own intentions will eat him all up. Whipper-snapper. I abhor him. [scowling]

Third Elder: I doubt he knows or understands whereof he speaks. Poor Lordes.

Second Elder: Learn to love, fellows.

Fourth Elder: I’m off.
[Exit forth elder]

[whispers]

Second Elder: Ay… Enough. Let’s end this convo, fellows. Lets get outta here. I’m already craving for some beer.

Third Elder: Ugh! You’re a beer addict. No wonder your beard is as grey as your hair.

Second Elder: Keep your mouth shut before I report you to Lordes.

Third Elder: Ay, Ay Captain.

[Exeunt]

Tales In A Daydream [ Act III Scene III]

[Narrhabath is clothed in a salwar and bites on a leaf placed horizontally in her mouth. She suspends whilst chanting. Her temple has a huge statue of Buddha and there are earthenware bowls lined up around her mat. There are weird wailing sounds and whistles from within and the innermost part of the temple is covered with shades of the giant trees outside.]

Enter Pablo and Cathinius

Cathinius: Her eyes are closed? [Whispering]

Pablo: Keep shut my son. Follow thy honour’s step. [Mumbling]

Narrhabath: My sight is blocked yet I see through the unseen. I see you two. I see two gentlemen. One, an offspring and the other the parent. Both by names Cathinius and Pablo. Siddhartha Gautama dost hail. Hail… mighty one, Hail! You hail…you reign… Siddhartha, reign!

Pablo: Great honour, two brave men stand before you indeed. From a long mile have we walked. We live in the cottage down the street of Venus. Narrhabath, mother of the heavens, ruler of the clouds… May your kingdom hail.

Cathinius: Papa? Tell it all.

Pablo: My niece Amberlina, eighteen years of age, a young and beautiful virgin is an intertwined piece altogether. Thus, she claims she is in need of a companion. Desperate as she is, young and confused, there’s no word of advise our noble Lina will heed to. But she is not on her own. Her mother drives her to do what she does. It would be very unfair and doltish to give such advise to a child of your own. Therefore Narrhabath, seek the future for us. Make it all known and guard the future for us. Feed us yet with the answer. If not there’ll be a regrettable predicament and we’ll lose our jewel, Amber. Hail, Narrh, Hail… [genuflecting]

Narrhabath opens her eyes. Her eyeballs are all white and illuminating. Her hair gently sways while she slowly rests on a mat below her.

Narrhabath: Aha! Great Gautama! He is still of good strength. [pointing her finger at one earthenware bowl at her right]
Take one of these. What you see in it is the future. For you seeketh and now hath you the future in your hands. Look deep, I say, deep. [laughing heartily]

Pablo stretches out his right arm picking one of the lined up earthenware bowls.

Pablo: What seeth I, son? Amberlina? Dead? No! No! I can’t believe this. My eyes deceive me. [wailing] Narrh! Narrh! Savagely eliminated? Gird me up, Narhh! Gird me up!

Narrhabath: Ha, ha, ha! [Heaving a sigh]. I need not thy tears and sorrows. Take heed to my word. Ha, ha. Fellows, alas, for you’re stranded. My word is your word. If thou faileth to complete within the allotted interval, beautiful Amberlina would be called to join her forefathers.

Cathinius: Hail Narrhabath, we all hail. How great thou art. How generous thou art been to us, how strong thou art. [Looks up with arms opened] Our hearts art thine.

Narrhabath: Amberlina hath a bright and vast future. A great gift from her forefathers I mean. But her sense of naivity maketh her a blind piece. Her thoughts manipulate her either. Be not disconsolate. Be thou content! I say, be content. Her views art discordant with thine. But I say unto you, amenable Amber must be convinced duly. You Cathinius, it’s your duty.

Cathinius: But how, your honour? [bows his head]

Narrhabath: No more questions. A prince from Arcadia intends to take a journey to Venus. He’s on a particular mission. An evil one indeed. He claims that he wants to marry at his age and he would love to have a virgin. When he gets to Venus, Amber will be his ultimate choice. Though, unseen yet, they’re connected. You both have to fight for her life or she loses it forever.

Pablo: Gracious, gracious, your honour. Your word is ours indeed.

Narrhabath: Go forth, tell her. Tell her. Let her eyes see the red moon ahead. Her right hand man might later come but her endurance will save her. This period is too sinister. Her right hand man is also a Prince. Whence I tell not. Be content, I say. But teach her to not intertwine both fates. Her destiny is serpentine. Be the heroes of her young life and straighten the curvature nature of the path she taketh. My words are sealed. [her eyes shut at once]

Pablo: Gracious honourable honour. Hail thee! Great Siddhartha Gautama hail.

Narrhabath: Enough! [frowning] Turn toward thy abode.

Cathinius: Should we keep you in the picture?

Narrhabath: Be here each week. Fetch the details hither. Make them known to me when you come. Be not headstrong but of free conscience and put in your best.

Pablo: We will come, but we’ll put it on our effort .

[Exeunt]

Tales In A Daydream [ACT II Scene I]

A castle in Arcadia .

It’s nine hours past midday and Prince Lordes, the current Prince of Arcadia is dressed in a richly embellished cloak with reaching to the knees under which he wears black leggings. There’s a golden belt girded around his waist. At his right hand is his personal assistant, Ham Walter who is clothed in a simple a long gown and sleeveless tunics under which he wears blue stockings. He sits with Prince Lordes at a table in one of the conference rooms located in the courtyard of the castle.

Prince Lordes: The walls of my noble land are going to collapse. I’m stepping out to Venus in search for one of those young virgins to quench my thirst.

Walter: My Prince, what do you mean? What thinketh you?

Lordes: Ha! Don’t be a little freak! [pulling down Walter’s chin and drawing closer to him] I need to get everything I want. I loathe my very presence whenever I find myself wanting.

Walter: I believe so but my Prince, you’re speaking in parables. What’s your point my Prince?

Lordes: Walter [pauses], be not too honest a man. Your senses are gifts from above. I mean your head is not as empty as I want to deem it. There’s a gift inside it. Could you do me the favor by utilizing it please? Efficient use of gifts bring forth the fruit of pleasure and satisfaction but abundant obedience matches stupidity. You are a man of virtue and a man of value so act on your values, fellow!

Walter: I know of all this, Prince. But enlighten me more on your mission to Venus.

Lordes: Ooo! It seems the cat cannot sense the meat I’m roasting. [showing disappointment] All I am saying is that I desire a companion. I need a goddess! A sparkling jewel; a woman I mean.

Walter: You’re not a god. You are but a mere Prince. And if you indeed desire to have a companion why not from your native home. Your honor, you ate and drank together with your brothers of this town and now you move away in search of a woman? Why such haste??!

Lordes: Shut it! You know nothing, Walter! Watch my honorable steps honey[smiling]

Walter: Yes, my Lord. [frowns]

Lordes: How it would have been much satisfactory if that lady was meant to be on my heart. But it is the opposite.

Walter: But my Lord I thought you desired to have your companion. My humbleness though; you mean you have your own intentions? This seems so unpleasant.

Lordes: Unpleasant indeed! Walter… I told you earlier that you needed to wise up.

Walter: The insect that hovers around noisily can be killed by just one violent slap. Have a keen heart and ear to hear me out, my honorable Prince Lordes. The warriors of our noble land go into war with courage, they have that faith, my Lord. But [pauses], do they come back in their numbers? No. Don’t go forth and tarnish your father’s image. His honor was a great leader. For his sake you are on this throne in this kingdom. Watch out Prince. Not all that we desire is what we deserve. [sighs]

Lordes: A bird that is determined to build its nest within just a day is never convinced. I had wanted to decide, but with my sense of determination I’m pushed. [yawning] I’m too tired, Walter. Myalgia, I suppose. Allow me. Let’s talk when day breaks. It’s midnight already.

Walter: My Prince, do not allow for your heart to be king. Sometimes you need to consider your honorable throne.[Lordes turns back to look at him and moves to his room] What at all does this Prince want in life? He must be insane; perhaps he drank too much beer. Well, let’s watch out when the cock crows.

[Exit Walter]

Tales In A Daydream [Act II Scene II]

Venus. A house down the street.

Pablo: I’m all dressed. On track! Get me my staff and my sac. Place the chiminea in the sac and add up some penny.

Cathinius: Huh??! What is it ‘bout a chiminea too?

Pablo: [grins] Shh! Just do as I say. You’ll know the aftermath soon.

Cathinius: Okay, Mr. Old man. [hanging the sac across his shoulders] Have your staff, Sir.[throws the staff to Pablo]

Pablo: Thanks. Let’s go. [opening the outlet door]

Cathinius: I love the cold air outside.

Pablo: Kid! There’s no time for nature’s admiral. Release the horse, quick! Pull the reins outta the saddle and move!

Cathinius: Ay! Captain.

Pablo: I ain’t a captain at this hour. [horse neighs]

Cathinius: AHA! Captain! Move! Move! I say, Move! [Cathinius mounts the horse. He assists Pablo in doing same and they set off]

[Exeunt]

Tales In A Daydream [Act I Scene III]

A cottage down the streets of Venus.

Cathinius drinks coffee at the table. Pablo places a kettle of hot milk on a piece of woven mat on the table while he sits.

Cathinius: It’s been ages since we set our eyes on Amberlina.

Pablo: Ay. My eyes have seen something distinct. It’s serious, son.

Cathinius: Tell me of it, Papa.

Pablo: It’s about your cousin. [clears his throat]

Cathinius: What about her, Papa?

Pablo: She’s in too much haste.

Cathinius: What haste Pablo?

Pablo: Your cousin is in too much haste. Is she sitting on an angry horse that runs so quick that she can’t slow down in life?

Cathinius glares at Pablo.

Cathinius: No circumlocutions, old man. Just go straight to the point.

Pablo: You can’t command me, young man!

Cathinius: Papa, simply go to the point and stop beating about the bush.

Pablo: And do you see me with a cane?

Cathinius: O God! [cackles] Papa what has Amber, my cousin done? Why do you say she is in too much haste?

Pablo: Okay. I hear she needs a companion and through that her mind and muse have intertwined and she’s completely confused and her brain is empty. Thanks be to her good-for-nothing mother that keeps lavishing that spoilt child with gifts which cause her to make stupid decisions. I wonder how Blanche could pamper such a beautiful girl and end up spoiling her. That poor girl knows nothing yet Blanche wants to give her out to marry some wretched fool, all in the name of money! [frowning]

Cathinius: Take it easy, old man. How do you know all these, Papa?

Pablo: I have my own sources kid!

Cathinius: I’m not a kid, you old man! I’m twenty three. See?

Pablo: Whatever. We need to do something to help your cousin out. But….

Cathinius: Then go forth and address Valentine first.

Pablo: I’m on my way, son.

Cathinius: Papa, let’s rescue Amber. This is not good at all. Amber listens to Blanche and no one else. Not even to her father. Help her, father.

Pablo: I ain’t Santa Claus though. I’m outta here!

Exit Pablo

Cathinius: Oh Heavens, [looking up] hear us from above. Our land’s nobility has pursued distraction and destruction. It’s beautiful and live colours have faded away, the gardens which bore roses now bear thorns. What a pity! [to himself] Hm, I wonder where our future lies as the women of our land have began giving our young girls out to marry older men from nowhere because of wealth.

[Enter Amberlina]

Cathinius: Heyy, so we meet again! [hugging her]

Amberlina: Aw! I missed you so much, cousin. Don’t cuddle me too much, Cath.

Both burst into laughter

Cathinius: I wish I could. How are you? What are you doing here by the way? Oh, have a seat Amber.

They both sit on an old settee in the living room.

Amberlina: I’m okay, Cath. Just a visit. I miss you and Pablo!

Cathinius: Wait… did you not bump into Pablo?

Amberlina: No. Why?

Cathinius: He went out not too long ago.

Amberlina: How’s home?

Cathinius: Well, just the same old. This house has never been the same ever since Mama died. [heaves a sigh] How’s my noble mistress?

Amberlina: Aww! I’m so sorry about Auntie Mary’s sudden death. Farewell! Your Elena’s doing great. She misses you!

Cathinius: Good. Me too! Well that’s not how I want you to also end up. You know, when the little ones start growing, they see the change. Time perishes and life can capside and collide with struggles but the wise ones walk through bushes of thorns but they always arrive at their destination. And fate welcomes them warmly.

Amberlina: Cousin, [drawing closer to him] I do not understand this. I’m nervous.

Cathinius: It’s about your life, Amber. Watch your steps and do not listen to sweet lies from those you think love you. Sometimes in life those closer to us may make certain choices for us but they may end up being the worst choice ever. You have to be wise. There’s enough treasure but focus on the future too and not just the present. You’re still too young, Amber. Think about it, Amber.

Amberlina: What is it I’ve done wrong?

Cathinius: I hear you’re getting married. Tell me. Is that true?

Amberlina: Who told you this, Cath? And to whom do I get married?

Cathinius: You haven’t answered me, Amber.

Amberlina: What are you saying, Cathinius? I have no intentions of getting married. Please stop. The teller is a liar.

Cathinius: Amber will you get married without your cousin and only uncle knowing? Well I care not. Just be careful.

Amberlina:Okay. I think I’ll have to go now. Maman will be waiting. Thanks for your wise words. Tell Pablo that I came to visit. [hugging him]

Cathinius: Take care and reflect wisely.

Exeunt

[Re-enter Pablo]

Pablo walks to the dining table panting and sweating.

Pablo: Cathinius! Cathinius! Where you at?

Cathinius: Papa? I’m here [appears from back stage] I talked to her today. She ran in immediately you left. [yawns]I thought you’d bumped into her.

Pablo: Amberlina?

Cathinius: Ay, captain. She says she desires in no marriage. Can’t believe she told a lie.

Pablo: Fetch me my beer and glass. I’m provoked. Imagine that silly Blanche told me that she hates my words [frowning]

Cathinius: And your response?

Pablo: Pry I not. The Lords of our noble Venus detest such conduct. I’ve spoken enough hence, I almost squashed my bowels! It’s unbelievable that she is the control freak in that house. I advised Val but he wouldn’t listen. Perhaps my brother was blinded by love. [sighing]

Cathinius: And what says Valentine?

Pablo: Il ne parle rien, le fils. Just said his wife had spoilt his girl. The girl listens to Blanche alone.

Cathinius: And is Blanche making Val lessee?

Pablo: Elle le rend fou. But we’re talking about Amber here.

Cathinius: I just needed to know.

Pablo: That lady, my foot, needs to face her nemesis.

Cathinius: Do not curse, Papa.

Pablo: I’m in anguish! I abhor her! [yelling]

Cathinius: Keep calm, Papa.

Pablo: For how long, Cath? My brother is aged and Blanche might strangle him to death one day.

Cathinius: Don’t worry too much, Papa. Amberlina is my linchpin. For her life and future I’m concerned a lot about.

Pablo: May the heavens eavesdrop our petitions.

Cathinius: Pablo, listen here. Life gives us heaven; a heaven indeed to cast all our troubles unto. But we rather gave ingratitude to heaven and this was the bridge between man and the heavens. But heaven is too quick to forgive. Don’t give up, Papa.

Pablo: Thank you, son. You’re full of wisdom, you took after me indeed.

Cathinius: Amber is too naive.

Pablo: It’s her mother. That silly woman![grins] She’s plunged Amber’s mind into total blindness.

Cathinius: I have an idea!

Pablo: Aha ?

Cathinius: Why don’t we visit Narrhabath, the soothsayer down the Buraic valley?

Pablo: WOW! Cathinius for decades you’ve never expressed such great wisdom. Narrhabath sees beyond the physical realm. [laughing]

Cathinius: Hey! What are you saying, Papa? [glaring at Pablo] Anyways when the moon lits up during, we’ll start our mission. It’s far but we’ll endeavor to complete this mission.

Pablo: Fatherlike nature of a prudent son! I’m impressed [nodding]

Cathinius: Papa! Lizard! [cries while pointing at Pablo’s shoulder]

Pablo: What! What is it, you son-of-a-bitch??!!

Cathinius: There’s a lizard on your shoulder!

Pablo: Ah! Aah! Help! [running]

Exit Pablo

Cathinius: Crazy herpetophobic old man! Better get over that soon. [bursts into laughter]

Exit Cathinius

Tales In A Daydream [ACT 1 Scene I and II]

Down a silent street. Amberlina and Elena take a stroll in the streets of Venus in the late evening where there is serenity and divine silence. Birds chirping, branches of willows swaying, tulips dancing to the wind’s tune and a cool breeze accompanying them.

Amberlina: Gosh! What a home I have with treasures of life and wealth but without a companion.

Elena: Thrust not yourself! Heaven is behind the one with a white heart; a heart without boundaries. Have a little more patience, Amber. Time and perfection work together. Ain’t you a beauty? You’re full of splendor and energy. Be patient.

Amberlina: You know not thrust. My speech shows of no thrust. It’s of anxiety and despair. Bear with me friend. I do not intend to stab myself to death! But I am not fulfilled, Elena. I’m single and tired of this lovelorn nature. It’s boring! I loathe my very life, Elena.

Elena: Make not your reputation as despicable, but rather a symbolism of true respect.

Amberlina: Roger!

Elena: It is my duty as a true friend to guide your path when you are on the verge of diverting. Besides, your conscience is behind all your actions. I wonder who injects these false ideas into that head of yours. As a matter of fact you’re inexperienced. You barely know what it takes to prepare for such a lifetime commitment. Hold on, Amber. Hold on.

Amberlina: But this fact is of no proof. A lady without a man; it’s like living without a soul. I am compelled to do evil.

Elena: What kind of evil? Do not step on your own toes. A wise man once said,

‘Conscience is sometimes the devil
That compels one to do evil
T’is sometimes the thief of the mind
And can make one go blind
to the easy way out
and to all that’s going about’
Be vigilant, Amber. When your conscience is wrong that’s when you begin to see things wrongly and you’re blinded to the truth. Just as the wise man said in his piece.

Amberlina: Understood, philosopher Elena. I’ll surely consider these words. But I am of age. Spy the world around you, Elena. Tell me, what do you sense?

Elena: What?

Amberlina: Even nightingales sing in pairs on the trees, the roses blossom scent the air. Everywhere becomes pleasant and love brews. He holds me so tight and cuddles me and I feel his warmth. We talk and dine and roses rain while the birds sing. And we dance all night and his linen cloth smells of pure lavender. He’s so close that I don’t wanna let go ‘cause I can feel the wonderful natural love thing within me but it’s just imagination… Oh! Daydreaming! Then after I come back to my senses I realize I’m all alone. I wake up too perturbed and perplexed.

Elena: Enough Amber! You’re thinking too deep! Watch your step Amber. Aha! And save your words. At this young age? Just eighteen?

Amberlina: You want me to pass age??

[Elena flares up]

Elena: You want me to take this? I’ve had enough ‘Lina. Go think of it. All I’ve said.

Exeunt

SCENE II [Amberlina’s Residence] Enter Amberlina and Elena. Marline sits at the dining table reading a map.

Marline: Hola! [hugs Amber] Missed you! What did you get for me?

Amberlina: Something special. [smirks]

Marline: What’s that little thing for your little Marline? [smiles tenderly]

Amberlina: A gift [pauses] called empty hands. I’m so sorry Marly.

Marline: That’s fine. [saddened]

Amberlina: Where’s Mama?

Marline: Out! [stomps out]

[Elena And Amberlina both stare at each other in surprise as Marline moves out]

[Enter Lady Blanche and Valentine] Lady Blanche is dressed in a sparkling golden gown with her cheeks blushed and lips glossy and red as scarlet. In her left hand is a fan and a porch purse. She walks on stage majestically, arm-in-arm with Valentine, her husband.

Lady Blanche: Heloo! [gasps in surprise]

Amberlina: Maman!! [exchanges hugs and kisses]

Lady Blanche: My Cupid! [coddling Amberlina] You look like the Queen of the stars and gold in the bright morning sky. [kisses Amber’s forehead]

Valentine: A lot of pampering, Woman! [wears a frown]

Blanche: Hey, Old man! Would you shut your tiny beak?? Quiet, shh!

Valentine: Shh! [to her] Birds of a kind huh? I’m outta here! [stomps out furiously]

Blanche: Come on Babe, let’s go and get you something to eat. How are you Elena?

Elena: I’m good, Lady Blanche. How are you? [sounding brittle and croaky]

Blanche: Ho! I am greatly fit, enthusiastic and kicking! We thank God for our lives. Gone are the days when humanity was clothed in sackcloth and smeared with sheen shea. In the present, we all are trying to make ends meet; fashionable and smart. The olden way of life is abolished. By eighteen and you’re already a yummy mummy. Be wise, girls.

Elena: Thanks Blanche but I think inexperience could lead to one’s downfall. How can we say we’re smart when the laws of our land are now being infringed upon? How can we say we’re modernized when the same sky which gave us rain in indigenous times just gives us but storms on our land’s nobility? People are dying, Blanche. Yet we give our young girls out too early to men because we think these men are wealthy enough. Most of our girls are inexperienced to get married. It’s so unfair.

Blanche: You talk too much, Elena. This shows of wisdom and deep thinking but first note this. The greatest gifts could best be grabbed earlier than the latter ones. To me, everything is good! [cackles]

Elena: I have to go now. I am stranded in some sort of myalgia in my arm. See you later. [hugs them both and exists]

Blanche: Did you tell her anything about the convo we had yesterday?

Amberlina: No maman. I said not a single bit of it.

Blanche: Good! You’re my angel Amber, and I know what is just best for you. Don’t listen to anyone but me. Just me, you heard?

Amberlina: Yes Mama. I will always listen to you.

THE OLD YOU (II)

It all started when our instincts

began to merge into a confidable rapport

with no traits and source of bee stings

which we both tended to abhor

Then I might have made wrong turns

and that you had to sourly deal with

The pain was more than that of burns

but I was so blind while ravish’d

to another heart’s delight

With the old you I could dine

but with the the cold you there’s plight

and it is indeed my presence you decline

But it is the old you for which I crave

Lest I fall down deep to the grave
